Stablecoin Market Could Reach $4 Trillion by 2030, Citi Says in Revised Forecast
The stablecoin market is expanding at an accelerated pace, with issuance volumes surging from $200 billion at the start of 2025 to $280 billion currently. Citi has revised its 2030 projections upward, forecasting $1.9 trillion in base-case issuance and a bullish scenario of $4 trillion.
If stablecoins achieve velocity parity with fiat currencies, they could facilitate $100 trillion in annual transactions by 2030—potentially doubling in the bull case. This growth signals blockchain's 'ChatGPT moment,' with digitally native firms driving real-world commerce adoption.
Bank-issued tokens may capture significant market share, particularly for corporate transactions requiring regulatory safeguards and real-time settlement. Even marginal migration of traditional banking to blockchain could push bank token turnover beyond $100 trillion by 2030.
Dollar dominance persists in on-chain finance, though emerging hubs like Hong Kong and the UAE are gaining traction as innovation centers.
